How often should lawns be aerated? For most established Texas lawns, once a year is the right baseline. Lawns with heavy traffic, severe compaction, or ongoing thinning may benefit from aeration twice a year as part of a focused lawn-health plan.

Aeration is not a cosmetic add-on. It is one of the services that helps fertilizer, irrigation, weed control, and overseeding produce better results. If the soil cannot absorb what you apply, even a strong maintenance routine will fall short.

How Often Should Lawns Be Aerated in San Antonio?

Most Bermuda, St. Augustine, zoysia, and other warm-season lawns in the San Antonio area should receive core aeration annually. This schedule relieves moderate compaction before it becomes a bigger root-zone problem and keeps the turf better prepared for heat, drought pressure, and normal use.

Twice-yearly aeration can make sense for lawns that receive constant wear. Think of a backyard used by children and pets, a frequently used commercial entrance, a rental property with compacted bare spots, or turf that has experienced construction traffic. Clay-heavy ground also compacts faster than sandy soil, especially when it is mowed or walked on while wet.
